A new work inspired by the writings of Henry David Thoreau and the music of John Cage. The setting was inspired by the childhood home of Thoreau, yet its three floor volume has been fractured, with its defining elements of stairs, roofs, wallpapered surfaces, doorways, etc…distributed about a single floor plane. In keeping with the work of John Cage, these features have been ambiguously organized to encourage unique encounters between dancers, their space, and the transformative interpretation they can give to the distributed artifacts. Both dancers and audience move simultaneously through this environment, allowing the experience of the show to be unique to each individual, and akin to Thoreau’s solo journey of inquiry and contemplation in the woods of Walden Pond.
