DEBORAH and ALAN have been collaborating on and off in the practice of architecture since 1979 after meeting as graduate students in the Architecture Department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2002 they joined as founding partners in an architectural design and consulting practice with experience in civic, performing arts, higher education, institutional, retail, housing, and high-end residential work.
DEBORAH has been the Principal of her own firm, Deborah Epstein Architect, for 15 years, where her passion for the nature of materials, color, and composition has produced finely crafted, high-end, specialty design work. To support this she has developed extensive collaborative relationships with crafts people and artists.
ALAN has been a Principal of a nationally recognized architectural design firm, where for 17 years as a Principal-in-Charge of Design and/or Project Architect, he has designed community gathering places for such distinguished organizations as The Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Baltimore Symphony, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The North Carolina Symphony, The Santa Rosa Symphony, DreamWorks SKG, The Walt Disney Company, Phillips-Exeter Academy, The Lawrenceville School, Babson College, Trinity College, and Williams College. On occasion, Alan is a Visiting Associate Professor of Architecture at MIT.
TOGETHER and in their former practices their design work has been published extensively and has received 45 local, regional and national design awards, including four National AIA Honor Awards.
